A family business built on expertise

A history of problem-solving
In 1963, Lt. Col. Rufus Stone developed Curb® Garden Powder (MAPP 18644) to stop elephants damaging tea drying huts in Assam, India. His bitter repellent worked and the results spoke for themselves. Recognising its effectiveness, he patented the formula in 25 countries and went on to establish Sphere Laboratories (London) Limited.
By the 1970s, Sphere needed specialised regulatory expertise to continue business within the EU. Over time, we built extensive experience in regulatory submissions for animal repellents, leading to the formation of Laronkarn Limited. This enabled the successful registration and commercialisation of Curb® Liquid Crop Spray (MAPP 18643) and Curb® Garden Powder (MAPP 18644), both still essential for crop protection today.
In 2012, we faced another challenge. Large-scale packaging suppliers couldn’t handle small-batch production cost-effectively. Instead of compromising, we established Putley Services Limited to manage on-demand, small-scale packaging, ensuring cost efficiency, flexibility, and full control over quality.
In 2017, Kwizda initially approached Laronkarn for support in gaining UK registration for TRICO® (UK Authorisation No. 2022/00361), a deer repellent used in forestry, agriculture, and conservation. This led to an ongoing partnership that strengthened TRICO®’s presence in the UK. TRICO® has since become a practical solution to deer browsing, trusted across Europe and beyond.
